Name: Martha Jones
Alias or Custom Title: Dr Jones. Though feel free to call her 'brilliant', she'll answer to that too.
Age/Age appearance: 26
Appearance:
Hometown: London
Family: Francine, Clive, parents, Tish, sister, Leo, brother, niece Kisha, Adeola, cousin (deceased)
Special Characteristics: Ridiculously resilient, reliable, compassionate and clever. Tends to martyrdom, but she's working on it.
Status: Companion
History: Born to Francine and Clive, Martha Jones is the quintessential middle child. The peacekeeper of her family, especially during her parents breakup, Martha is the first person in the family that they'll think to call.
As she grew up she felt called to heal, so she went to medical school and worked towards becoming a doctor.
She would have graduated, were it not for a very strange man who decided to take off his tie in front of her to prove his point, a bunch of space rhinos and a plasmavore.
Unfortunately, Martha's interest was piqued by the man himself, the Doctor, with his bouncing around filled with radiation and ending up barefoot on the Moon, his dismay for his screwdriver and the giving of his life to get the plasmavore arrested. She fell in love with him.
The Doctor reappeared later that day, after her brother's birthday party, and coyly invited her to travel with him - 'one trip to say thank you'. She flirted back, but was immediately chided by him.
Then, while visiting Shakespeare came the word that Martha couldn't help but resent (at least for a while): Rose.
Still, despite what Shakespeare (between flirtations) said, Martha kept a little spark of hope for her and the Doctor, especially when he made up an excuse for her to stay on board.
After a kidnapping (by some nice enough people but...) and a trip to New York which ended up with some Daleks, the Doctor stopped finding excuses and left Martha home.
Fortunately, Lazarus served to pique the Doctor's interest some and almost immediately after he left her returned.
Naturally, the Lazarus experiment went somewhat awry, and despite only knowing him for a short time, Martha didn't blame the suit.
Also going awry was the Doctor's relationship with her mother. After digging himself into a big hole of doom, someone who worked with Saxon convinced her that he was a danger to her daughter, earning him a slap.
Martha was deeply offended by her mother's reaction and went off to help the Doctor despite her mother's objections. Her sister, Tish, who has a sadly deficient taste in men, went with her to help out.
Together the sisters drew him up to a bell tower and with some nifty organ work from the Doctor, the Lazarus monster was defeated.
She was sure of herself enough to insist that being a part-time passenger was beneath her. The Doctor agreed.
After this, Martha came into her own as companion, able to function, if distressed, without the Doctor when he became infected with a sun creature.
The Doctor called on her to protect him again, when the Family of Blood pursued them. In order to keep himself from destroying them mercilessly, the Doctor chose to hide himself in 1913 as a human teacher. The time being what it was, Martha was forced to become a maid. She also had to endure racist remarks and the unforeseen consequence for the Doctor, falling in love with a human, a human that wasn't her.
She made a friend in fellow maid, Jenny, but that was short-lived as the Family of Blood found them. After unsuccessfully convincing him that he was the Doctor, he fired her and left her alone.
She continued trying to convince him, while trying to throw off the attentions of the Family. Eventually, the person who convinced him was John Smith's love, Nurse Redfern, and he became the Doctor again.
Martha was again called on to look after the Doctor when they were trapped in the 1960s without a TARDIS, finding employment in a shop.
Then she met Jack. When the Doctor hoped to avoid him, Jack literally jumped on board, sending them to the end of the universe. Where they met a kindly old man by the name of Professor Yana.
It was something of an annoyance to Martha in hindsight that she was the one who pointed out the watch that Yana had when he was a child, the one he couldn't see, and didn't think it could open despite never trying. The Master's fob watch.
The Master stole the TARDIS, leaving them stranded with the Future Kind, who were naturally trying to eat them.
The Doctor fiddled with Jack's vortex manipulator and got them back to the twenty first century. There, Martha realised that she was nearly going to vote for the Master, who managed to get elected with out it, and declared the 'Toclafane' were coming.
When the Master realised that they were home, he promptly went about trying to blow up the trio (fortunately, the only casualty was the apartment itself) and then arrested Martha's family, barring Leo and his small family unit.
The Doctor, Jack and Martha went up to the Valiant where first contact with this so-called species was to take place using a perception filter.
The Master foiled their plan and captured them and showed Martha her family in chains. Jack slipped his vortex manipulator and the Doctor whispered instructions into her ear. Standing tall, Martha activated the manipulator and transported herself to Earth.
Using the perception filter to keep herself hidden, Martha traveled the Earth, dodging the destruction of countries, and the desire to simply give up, spreading the gospel according to the Doctor, making people believe in him.
Using a known mole, Martha managed to let herself be found, but not before Tom Milligan sacrificed himself in a useless attempt to save her, much to the delight of the Master.
In the end though, Martha had the last laugh over him, because instead of a 'super secret weapon that destroyed Time Lords' which is just silly, now, she was telling stories and made sure the human race had one thought at one time: 'Doctor'. This served to restore the Doctor to his former self and he was able to fix the Master's damage to the time line, but left the memories of Martha, Jack and her family intact.
The Doctor was all rearing to go on another adventure with her, but Martha decided, that her place was at home and looking after her family.
On a whim, she called up the man who died for her and hung up immediately.
She plucked up the courage to meet him and, with a word in from the Doctor, joined up with UNIT. They helped her become a full fledged doctor and gave her a job as a senior adviser.
When the Doctor meets her again, with Donna Noble in tow, she was engaged to Tom Milligan, who spends a lot of time in Africa. After an impromptu adventure with the Doctor, it soldifies in her mind that while she loves parts of traveling with the Doctor, there are some really horrible things about it and she's happy on Earth.
She also worked with Jack, concerning some strange parasite, which ended up with her injected with it, the traces of the TARDIS the only thing keeping her from being killed. Owen Harper's little device destroyed the parasite before it could burst out of her.
Her work with Torchwood had a bitter end too, with Owen Harper's death.
At the moment, she's with good terms with UNIT and End of Time hasn't happened (yet), mostly because I wouldn't want any Mickey player to feel obligated.
Previous role-playing experience (if any):
Two Tin Man (now closed) Two Harry Potter (one on LJ), one multifandom (also on LJ)
RP Sample:
It was cold. Well, ok, cold didn't seem to describe it quite enough. It was absolutely, bone-chillingly freezing, like she'd never be warm again. Ever.
No help was the layer of mud that covered every open bit of skin. If her own mother would happen by, she wouldn't recognise her.
Martha's heart ached. I'll see you soon she promised herself.
With that thought, she pulled herself up, careful not to groan, let she attracted attention. The perception filter wasn't perfect, she had had that confirmed the hard way and had no intention of repeating the experience.
She focused on her task, the small gathering nearby. They originally numbered in their thousands, but the Master was unimpressed with their work. She wondered why he'd kept any of them alive, but decided that it was just another example of his rampant sadism.
She smirked, a dark smile that didn't quite fit on the young face. They'll be avenged, she thought.
She slipped and scrambled, feeling each rock and sharp thing dig into her skin. She was probably bleeding.
She tensed, the childish chatter of the Toclafane, along with the sound of whatever it was that kept them afloat, audible from some distance away.
Slowly moving her head, she looked around and saw them some distance away to the left of her destination, troubling a tiger. The animal, now no more endangered than the rest of humanity, growled and roared, but as moments past, the roars turned into whimpers and the growls into cries.
Tears blurred her vision and she blinked, not daring to move her arm, but needing to see. She stepped forward, veering to the right.
Keep moving, she told herself, even as the tiger let out a final cry. The Tolcafane cheered and spun.
She finally arrived at the village. She took her time before introducing herself to look at what she was working with.
Pretty much what she was working with everywhere. Tired, beaten people who looked seventy but were actually thirty. She was ready and walked up to the nearest person, a woman probably no older than she was.
