Name: Gwen Elizabeth Cooper-Williams
Alias or Custom Title:
Age/Age appearance: Late twenties, early thirties, depending on the current year. (If going by 2010, 32)
Appearence:
Standing at 5'7 1/2”, Gwen is, for a woman, of average height. She might not be trendy skinny, but to say she is fat would be lying. Sure, not the thinnest, but healthy looking is more the term, with nice curves and, it has to be said, a nice pair of breasts. She's got quite the collection of freckles on her face, summer and winter (though in Wales, who notices the difference?), dark hair, cut with straight bangs. Her hair curls a little, more of a wave to it really, but it's not too high maintenance, which, when working at Torchwood, seems a definite plus. Brown greenish eyes, usually framed with only a little eyeliner and mascara and full lips, behind which quite even teeth, though there is a gap between her front teeth, the reason she usually smiles with her mouth closed. Clothing wise, she'll wear pretty much anything, as long as it has at least some degree of comfort. One of the reasons you'd see her shopping at H&M and Topshop rather than some expensive fancy store.
Hometown: Cardiff, Wales
Family: Rhys Williams, husband Geraint and Mary Cooper, parents Barry and Brenda Williams, inlaws Gwyneth (Surname unknown), died in 1869, unknown what the family ties exactly are
Special Characteristics: Special is perhaps a big word, but these are quite defining features/characteristics regardless. The gap between her front teeth, Welsh accent, straight cut bangs.
Status: Apparently, and I stress the word apparently, “the human part of Torchwood”. So basically, part of Torchwood Three.
History: Born in 1978, Gwen's first twenty or so years are nothing too eventful. School, boyfriends, eventually Rhys, whom she met in college. After she left college, Gwen went on to train to become a police officer, which she had been for some years before first coming into contact with Torchwood. When she first saw Torchwood, she was a uniformed police constable, at a crimescene, a young man murdered, stabbed from behind with something like a knife. She saw the team resurrect the young man, after which she got suspicious of the 'specialists' as they were called by others on the crime scene. Her second encounter with Torchwood, or rather Captain Jack Harkness was in a hospital, where a Weevil was on the loose. She narrowly escaped the monster, with some help from the Captain, but when she realized she had lost him, and then saw a black van racing past, she followed that all the way to the Millenium Center, where the people who had been in the van seemed to disappear. After dwelling on this for some time, and investigating she entered the Hub with pizza. She got a tour, a drink, and a dose of retcon. Funny thing about retcon is, apparently, certain images, if you're strong enough, can bring back flashes of memory. In Gwen's case, this was a composition sketch of the murder weapon in three recent cases, which finally brought her back to the Millenium Center, where she nearly got killed by then-second in command Suzie Costello. Lucky for Gwen, Jack was there to save her, and instead of Gwen, Suzie killed herself. Memories of what she had been told during her Tour-de-Hub came flooding back, and Jack offered her a place at Torchwood 3.
During her time at Torchwood a great number of things has happened, both good and bad, but seeing how it's too much to go through in detail, let's just sum it up. First day she encountered a gaseous alien, inhabiting the body of a young woman, craving energy released during male orgasm, then a not entirely converted cyberwoman, fairies, cannibals, ghosts (or rather just one, just that of Eugene Jones), involuntary time travellers, humanoid blowfish and the Son of the Beast, Abbadon. During this year, to add to the fun, she nearly got killed by the same woman again. Suzie Costello was brought back from death by the same glove she used to experiment with and through a link between her and Gwen nearly drained her of her lifeforce.
Quite something, to say the least, and it took some time getting used to. This getting used to also brought problems, problems in her relationship with Rhys, rather than general problems. These were mainly caused by the fact that she could not tell him anything of what she did at work, nowhere to blow off some steam about her job, which eventually led to her to a brief affair with coworker Owen Harper. However, Owen was not the only one Gwen had (or has) some sort of sexual tension with. Of course, who could resist a dose of 51st century hormones? Obviously, Gwen Cooper can, for the most part. There has been some tension between her and Jack, but ever since he found out she got engaged to Rhys during his unexplained time away, he pretty much backed off, though, in her own words “I love him (Rhys) but not in the way I love you.” so it is clear she still has some sort of feelings for him.
Speaking of Jack, despite being the junior member of the organization, Gwen became somewhat of a leader to Torchwood 3, and stayed so until Jack got back. The time she has led TW3 has strengthened her leaderships qualities though, as would be proven later on. During the time, she has been to the Himalayas and accepted a marriage proposal of long time boyfriend Rhys. After some time however, Jack showed up again, and Gwen handed back leadership to him. After his return things took a more dramatic turn then last year, and a turn to more honesty towards Rhys. After nearly being killed by Jack's old partner, in more than just one way, Rhys' hauling company got involved in transport of alien meat. Because Rhys suspects Gwen is having an affair with Jack, she is forced to confess what her work is really about, and when Jack wants to retcon Rhys, Gwen in capable of convincing him not to do so, which later proves a great decision. Shortly after, because of an alien that used memories to keep itself alive, Gwen forgot all about Rhys, whom she found in their appartment, which lead to her nearly killing him. This was solved when he refreshed her momry on how they'd met, but not after Jack had been called.
At her wedding day, working for Torchwood seems to, once more, interfere with her private life, though Gwen will hear nothing of cancelling the wedding. The predicament? Because of a bite from a Nostrovite (a species that uses a host to breed) she wakes up, on her wedding day, nearly full term pregnant. In the end this was solved by Rhys, under guidance of now undead Owen, using the Singularity Scalpel to terminate the 'pregnancy' and they get married regardless, in bloodspattered, dirty clothing. The guests are retconned.
Most recently she, Jack and Iantho were the only survivors (or so she thinks) of several severely violent acts by Jack's long lost brother Gray, who came to have his revenge on his brother. During the time, he exploded 15 bombs throughout Cardiff, set Weevils free and buried Jack where Cardiff would be built. Gwen used the leadership skills she picked up during the time Jack was away to help the policeforce, and everything got settled in the end. Except of course, well, the two dead teammates. For now, Gwen is still in somewhat of a shock over it, but she's dealing.
Previous role-playing experience (if any): I've been playing for... Three or four years now. I've mostly done Potter verse and some 'reallife', but only recently got obsessed with Doctor Who and Torchwood, so I'm pretty new to this 'verse.
