Again, the Doctor found himself exactly where he wanted to be. "Have to look into a randomiser," he murmured to himself.
He turned to his daughter. "Jenny! Welcome to California... Pasadena, Los Angeles, to be precise. 1988." He smiled to disguise his apprehension. It was possible that his sixth self might have returned her to her own time, certainly, that would have been an ideal solution if she decided to leave, but it wasn't necessarily likely. Especially if she hadn't left voluntarily.
Perhaps that was the reason why he hadn't actually told his daughter why he'd come here, calling it a 'passing fancy'.

Jenny smiled as she stepped out of the Tardis with the Doctor. She looked up at him when he started talking. “it looks almost the same as the other time I was in.” Jenny smiled looking around. She felt the warm breeze. “so, why are we here? Just for the fun of it?” she had asked looking at the people who were walking by.

“it looks almost the same as the other time I was in.” "The difference is subtle, but it's there. For instance, you see those big blocks those people are carrying. Cellular telephones, the precursor to that slim mobile phone that Martha had." He shrugged. "Well, technically, these were 'mobile phones' too, but I don't fancy having to carry them around, do you?" “so, why are we here? Just for the fun of it?” "First date that entered my head," he replied. "There's a lovely little café nearby, are you hungry?"

Jenny smiled to him as he pointed out a difference. she laughed. "they are so big compared to Martha's." she continued to look around. "why are they driving on the other side of the road? its backwards." Jenny gazed at the cars. she then looked up at the Doctor, wondering if he knew.
Jenny smiled and nodded. "food sounds great. How often do you visit this time?" she asked looking at him, waiting for him to lead the way to the cafe.

"why are they driving on the other side of the road? it's backwards." Of course he knows! "Wagons, Jenny! The Americans used many horses to drive their wagons, and the driver's seat was on the left hand side. So, in order to see oncoming traffic..." "food sounds great. How often do you visit this time?" "Oh, I've been to the eighties a few times," he sighed, with a smile. "Not bad, as decades go." He led them to a nearby café, nothing too remarkable looking, but the food there was excellent. He handed his daughter a menu.

Jenny made a face. “but it’s the other way back in London.” Jenny said looking at the weird looking cars, then back to the Doctor. Jenny only shrugged it off. She looked around the busy streets. It looked a little like London, but it was warmer out.
“why? What happened decades ago?” Jenny asked. She hadn’t don’t much reading or going over earth’s history since she has been here, and now that she was with the Doctor, he seemed like a history book anyway. They walked into the café and she took the menu from her father. She looked at it and couldn’t decide on what to get. “so what do you recommend?” she shot him a smile.

“but it’s the other way back in London.” "Yes... but large wagons weren't in much demand in a country as small as England or Ireland. It goes back to the Romans. They were required to be right handed. So they were on the right hand of their wagon, hence the oncoming traffic, on the left." “so what do you recommend?” "Ah, the cheesecake is nice," he said. "Would you excuse me, for a moment?" he asked, moving off to speak to manager. The manager indicated towards the back and sure enough the Doctor found a telephone book. He opened it and looked for 'Brown'. Finding the specific page, he memorised the addresses (surprisingly enough there were only eight) and closed it. He moved back to Jenny. "Sorry about that," he said, sitting down. (OOC: The Doctor wasn't refering to a specific time or any event thereof. He was commenting on the quality of the decade compared to others.)

Jenny had sat there, thinking about ordering the cheese cake. it sounded good. she didnt pay her father much attention, just watched him walk to the phones for something. Jenny couldnt make up her mind on what cheese cake to order. she thought the mint chocolate chip sounded good. she watched the Doctor sit down again and she then asked "what were you doing by the telephones?"

"what were you doing by the telephones?" "Oh, looking something up," he replied airly. "Nothing worth worrying about," he added. "I think I'll order the strawberry cheesecake. Have you decided?"

"something or someone?" Jenny teased. she figured he was looking for someone, an old friend. Jenny nodded and she then said to him "i think i am going to get the mint chocolate chip cheesecake. it sounds good." Jenny smiled. anything with chocolate was well worth it.

"Just a friend," he signalled a waitress and gave her their orders. "I pick them up every now and again," he added after a few moments of silence. "Have... you?" he asked awkwardly, maybe finally absorbing the fact that his own flesh and blood sat before him.

"Have... you?"
Jenny looked at him with a confused look. from his previous statement, Jenny knew that he cared a lot for this friend, like his otherself cared for Martha and Donna. she then asked him curiously "have i what?" Jenny really wanted to learn more about him.

The Doctor frowned at her. Wasn't it perfectly obvious what he was asking? he thought, forgetting that Jenny was fully entitled to believe the conversation they'd been having to be over, making his question seem out of the blue. "Oh, never mind!" he huffed grouchily. He leaned back to allow the waitress to deliver their cheesecakes. "Thank you," he managed to remember to say. The waitress gave him a big smile and lingered before leaving, which... freaked the Doctor out slightly. Because he hadn't had enough to freak him out lately. He stabbed at his cheesecake brooding on whether his daughter was being willfully stupid or something had gone wrong. After all, it wasn't like she could regenerate either. "I might take a look at your third strand later," he said, his tone brighter for having thought of a puzzle. "It is how Time Lords renegerate. Might be corrupted."

Jenny glared at him. she thought a moment and she then said "i had only a few friends. Cline and some Hath i dont remember his name, and i am friends with Donna Noble and Martha Jones." Jenny made a face. "you dont have to get pissy." she crossed her arms and turned her head. she then said "or it might not exist at all. i may be created from you but not enough like you."

"you dont have to get pissy." "Don't tell me how to feel!" he retorted, the idea that anyone has a right to tell anyone how to feel a sore one with him. Gallifrey even invented 'laws' about that as well. "And wherever you got that language from, you can stop using it. I will not have it in my TARDIS." "or it might not exist at all. i may be created from you but not enough like you." "Well, we won't know that unless we look, will we?" he replied, an urging for her to stay positive.
